2021: Year in Review

Hello Letters Against Isolation community! Happy New Year!

As we say goodbye to 2021, what better time to take stock of our formidable accomplishments this year! The power of the LAI community never fails to amaze me, and we continue to smash every goal we set for ourselves.

This year, we welcomed 8,688 new volunteers! Our vibrant community of 19,118 volunteers unites individuals from around the world. We have gotten to meet each other through our monthly Zoom parties, where we've met volunteers from the US, to Italy, to India! In March, we threw a big birthday bash to celebrate LAI's first birthday!

We reached 17,258 seniors in 7 countries: the US, England, Ireland, Australia, Canada, South Africa, and Israel. The letters we write are sent off to 301 care homes across the globe!

Together we've sent a whopping 212,735 letters and cards to uplift the seniors we serve. Since LAI was founded, we've brightened 323,277 days with our joyful mail!

These beautiful letters were written by a school in Abu Dhabi!

One of our senior recipients, Donna, told us that:

Reading the letters reminds me that I'm not alone in this isolation period, and that we are all in this together. It is touching to see that people of all ages care about people in other communities. Overall, it makes me feel uplifted.
Donna holds up a few of the letters she's received. She keeps them stored in a binder so that she can re-read them!

Getting to meet seniors, like Donna, we saw the longterm need for these letters and cards to reach seniors, so we took LAI the next level. We incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit. In the three months since incorporated, we've already raised $13,260, which is enough to pay off our incorporation fees, cover operations for 2022, and fund several new programs that will allow us to grow LAI.

The LAI community was also spotlighted in several exciting media outlets, from MSNBC to Real Simple Magazine to the Drew Barrymore Show. We also hosted a letter writing event for Biden's Prudential Inaugural Committee!

As we look ahead to 2022, I am so excited for what we will achieve together as a community! Thank you so much for your dedication to this community for fighting senior loneliness, one letter at a time. Special shoutout to Ellen and Alissa, our Volunteer Coordinators. We couldn't do this without you!

Happy New Year,

Saffron
